Our Project ~ Project W.I.S.H.

Hi everyone!

We are a CmPS (Community Problem Solving) group named Project W.I.S.H.(Wings In Singapore Heartland). Our chosen Community Problem is concerned with the sustainability of urban biodiversity in Singapore.

Singapore is a highly urbanised city-state in which sustained conservation of biodiversity is paramount. Singapore is a testament to the seldom recognised truth that with a little effort, biodiversity and urban nature are not mutually exclusive. Despite this, butterfly populations in Singapore are low, a cause for concern as butterflies are essential to the ecosystem. To address this, the Butterfly Trail @Orchard was established as a collaboration between several prominent nature societies in Singapore*.

This was done not only to encourage stability in the butterfly populations but also with the secondary intent of fostering public appreciation for nature by integrating nature into a highly urban, highly accessible setting. This is important as public involvement is crucial to the long-term success of community projects such as the Trail, and ultimately the sustainability of the wealth of urban biodiversity in Singapore.

Our project aims to aid in maintaining urban biodiversity in the long run by increasing and sustaining public involvement with and interest toward he Trail and other urban nature project in Singapore.

Our group was initiated in 2011, and has since been working closely with NSS on both the Trail and on establishing a butterfly garden in our school. Our group has since grown to include eight members: Zek Min, Kate, Vivian, Yuexin, Zhang Xuan, Wang You, Shayna and Beverley; and one mentor: Mrs Lee.

Our sights have been set higher, and we're thrilled to begin another year of furthering our cause.

This website will be a record as well as one of the means of publicity for our project.
